4. Do you also provide certified translations?

5. Can you lower your rates for my translation?

10. Can you also provide me with interpreting or subtitling services?

1. How much does a translation cost?

Every translation project is different: number of words, complexity of the text, language combination, possible extra work (e.g. correcting the layout in a translated PowerPoint file), etc.

It is therefore impossible to give a standard price for a translation.

2. Do you also translate into [foreign language]?

Professional translators exclusively translate into their mother tongue, in my case Dutch/Flemish.

There are, of course, exceptions, such as certified translations, where I also translate into English, French, and Spanish. But the general rule is that I only translate into Dutch/Flemish. The reason is simple: there is no language one knows as well as one's mother tongue.

This does not mean I cannot be of assistance if you need a translation into Spanish or Italian or any other language. I have a broad network of professional colleagues that can assist you.

3. When will I get my translation back?

There is no ready-made answer to this question either. The main factor is the number of words, but much also depends on the workflow on our side.

Do you need an urgent translation? We can help! With a personalised quotation taking into account your urgency and type of text, Alta Verba can help you beat competitors and have your text translated quickly.

4. Do you also provide certified translations?

Yes, I do! Alta Verba supplies certified translations from French, English, and Spanish. Ideal for the translation of birth certificates, marriage contracts, degrees, divorce agreements, adoption files, death certificates, driver's licences, nationality certificates, criminal records, pay slips, civil status certificates, medical certificates, etc.

I am certified with the court of Dendermonde.

5. Can you lower your rates for my translation?

Of course I could, but it would not be fair. As with any trade, quality in translation has its fair rate. And this includes all the stages of my translation process. You might find cheaper translators, but their quality is likely to have been compromised by other factors such as poor attention to detail and fast deliveries that don't always consider all the necessary aspects of a good Dutch and Flemish translation.
Read this article to know more about the importance of fair rates and quality in translation.

It has often happened that a new customer approached me because another, cheap supplier or a translation agency with no regard for quality delivered poor quality work. This means double costs as the customer now needs to pay twice for the translation. A bargain might not always be good.

Do not make the same mistake and mail me at info (at) altaverba (punt) be or call met at +32 476 524 258 for a free personalised quote.

6. Do you use Google Translate or other machine translation tools

No.

No machine translation whatsoever, including Google Translate, can offer a good translation. There are a lot of risks involved for you as a customer. In this article you can read more about the dangers of machine translation and the translators/translation agencies that are using them.

I admit that Google Translate may sometimes come in handy. You have an article in a foreign language you do not master, and via the automatic translation you immediately have an idea what it is all about. But no machine will ever understand the shades, subtle meanings, terminology and beautiful complexity of human language as a human can do. If you are concerned with your business image and sales, I would strongly recommend to ask for the personalised and professional support of a qualified translator.

7. My documents are confidential. Can I trust you?

Absolutely. Contrary to large translation agencies, who usually wave with one or several ISO certificates, your document does not end up on a server every employee has access to. At Alta Verba I am the only one who gets to see your text. I am bound by a self-imposed pledge of confidentiality with regard to its content.

My satisfied customers know their texts are safe with me.

8. Why should I choose you when I can work with a big agency?

If you have a document that needs to be translated into twenty languages and that requires possible desktop publishing work, and you -understandably- prefer one single point of contact, then it is better to turn to an agency.

But if you need, a personalised approach, Dutch and Flemish specialized translations and great quality, then you are all set with a professional freelance translator like Alta Verba. The advantages are so numerous that I collected them for you in this overview.

Large translation agencies are surely able to take care of your texts, but then you will miss out all the chances of working directly with a professional. These include benefits such as creating a personalised and long-lasting rapport with your translator, avoiding the costs of management that agencies usually involve, but also developing a winning team of professionals working on your needs that takes pride in what it does and considers your business success also its success.

9. I only have a PDF file. Can you translate it?

Yes, even when it is a scanned document. This implies more work and it will also be a bit more expensive, but I try to stick as much as possible to the original layout.

In this article, I explain in a more detailed way what the translation of PDF files involves.

10. Can you also provide me with interpreting or subtitling services?

Interpreting and subtitling are totally different specializations that require separate skills. If you need an interpreter or a subtitler, then I can refer you to professionals. Alta Verba only deals with translation projects.
